PUDDLETOWN 40

BLANDFORD SECONDS 0

PUDDLETOWN followed up their superb Dorset & Wilts Junior Vase victory last week with a resounding demolition of bottom side Blandford Seconds.

The second-placed Villagers did enough to dominate the game and they scored eight tries, four in each half. However, none of the eight tries were converted and many chances of further scores went begging with poor execution or sloppiness in the passing.

The team managed to secure a try scoring bonus point by half-time and started off in good fashion as captain Sam Bailley dotted down the first after 10 minutes when the ball was spun wide through the backs.

The second followed shortly after with loosehead prop Jez Beale breaking through the visitors’ line-out and touching down a bobbling loose ball to make it 10-0.

After 30 minutes, Beale was once again involved with a break down the left wing as he juggled the ball before neatly passing out to winger John Moise, who went over in the corner to score.

Just before the break, the home forwards exerted pressure on the Blandford line and got the benefit as they secured their fourth try.

From a five-metre line-out, openside Joe Malpas caught the ball and Puddletown rumbled towards the try line, with Beale going over for his second try of the half.

The second half started with the Villagers losing fly-half Tom Yeatman to the sin-bin for 10 minutes for a high tackle, as the away side paid the price. The remaining 14 men in red stepped up to the plate, with Baz Dovell deputising for Yeatman at fly-half and getting involved straight away.

The home forwards won a five-metre scrum and the ball was neatly spun out to Dan Udell, on as a replacement on the left wing, to go over in the corner.

The home forwards continued to pressurise the visitors and from a five-metre scrum, the number eight Pearce Mercer picked up from the base and drove through the Blandford defence to score.

Udell then made a break down the left wing and gave the ball to centre Matt Watts who scored.

The final try saw the ball was caught at a five-metre line-out, the maul formed and drove over for Jez Beale to get his third and Puddletown’s eighth try of the day.

It was a good victory but one that showed the team have things to work on in training before the game at Wheatsheaf Cabin Crew this week.
