HARRY Baker admitted his injury came as a bit of a shock when he suffered a deep cut to the head moments after coming on for Weymouth against Royston Town on Saturday.

A high boot from Sam Gaughran ended the striker’s afternoon and he was stretchered off and replaced by Jordan Ngalo when Weymouth were leading 2-0.

The injury is Baker’s first head injury and he admitted: “It was a bit of a shock, to be honest, I think I was just dazed when I went down after the challenge.

“I do not know if you can blame the other guy, maybe I put my head in there when I should not have. I do not know, it just happened so quick.

“I do not know if he meant to come down on me at all, the thing is it all happened so quickly I don’t really know what hit me.”

“Wrong place, wrong time but more importantly we won.”

Explaining what happened afterwards, Baker said: “I was in the changing room for about two hours and then got in an ambulance to the hospital, then I had to wait in A&E to have a couple of X-rays and then they glued the cut on my head back up and then I was back home resting up.”

Baker had just come on when the incident happened in the 65th minute, having replaced Ben Thomson three minutes earlier, and as a result of the tackle, Royston substitute Gaughran was sent off.

The Crows finished the game with nine men after John Frendo was given a straight red card for dissent in the 28th minute.

Baker said: “I think the game plan worked so well for us that maybe it got them frustrated and that is why they had the lad sent off in the first half.

“Maybe they just got a little bit rattled because we were playing well and they just got a little bit frustrated with themselves.”

Despite his injury, Baker was happy that the Terras got the win: “Royston have had a good season as well so it was nice to get more daylight from them and separate us from that pack.

“We just need to keep winning.”
