RISING ski star Bonnie Davenport has been selected for a place in England’s under-14 alpine squad.

Davenport, who attends Year Eight at Sunninghill Preparatory School in Dorchester, has been skiing since she was just three years of age but only started race training this year with the British Ski Academy in France.

Her best result of the season was fastest 2003 girl in the Giant Slalom at the Aiglon Cup in Switzerland.

This October half-term, Davenport, who also competed earlier this year at the English Championships in Bormio, Italy, will be pre-season training in France and is hoping for early success in the coming season.

The 12-year-old, who lives in Preston, said: “I love training with the British Ski Academy and I’m really looking forward to this season.”

A place on the squad is not just about results on snow. Proven year-round commitment to training and all-round fitness is also required to become a success.

Backing her all the way is her mother, Claire, who recently attended a final selection weekend in Manchester with the England set-up.

She added: “We are really proud of Bonnie’s achievement.

“She has worked very hard but wouldn’t be here without the tremendous support from Sunninghill Prep School, they have allowed Bonnie to follow her dreams and we are very grateful for their continued support and encouragement.”
