MANOR Park First School enjoyed an artistic start to its Sports Week.

The school decided earlier in the year that it would have a week of art, music and drama to celebrate its school teams Earth, Sky and Ocean.

As a result the children spent a week enjoying a range of activities with the ultimate aim of creating a spectacular opening ceremony for the school’s Sports Week 2014.

Teachers Stephen Cross and Lesley Goldsack said: “Our parents and visitors were therefore treated to an exciting performance based around the story of the ‘Weather Weaver’ and the animals of the world who couldn’t get the sun to shine!

“Every child in the school was involved, as well as local artist Claire Munford, musician Kathy Prince, volunteer helper Rod Drew, and parent helpers.

“The opening ceremony was a great success with many positive comments coming from the audience and the children thoroughly enjoyed taking part.

“Manor Park Sports Week, and our newly added competitive afternoons, have had an excellent start and our efforts have paid off, because the sun has so far kept shining brightly!”
