WEYMOUTH and Portland RFC’s Under-15s brought a successful season to a close with a presentation evening held at the Monmouth Avenue clubhouse.

The team played some of the best rugby at the club this season, winning 14 of 20 matches, and they put in a number of excellent performances along the way.

Their first win came against Swanage & Wareham and they went on to gain outstanding victories over visiting sides from Trowbridge, Cotham Park (Bristol) and Marlow.

Also, two of the 28-strong squad, Troy Brocklebank and Macauley Quinn, were selected to play at county level and for the Bath Academy.

Six awards were handed out this year, with the most improved player of the season gong going to Cameron Thomson for his continued improvement, particularly the strength and precision of his tackling in defence.

The players’ player and clubman awards went to Jack Terry who was recognised for his commitment to both the team and club as a whole.

He has also played an active role in promoting schools rugby in the area.

Bud Glover was named the player of the year after maturing on the field this season and playing a key role in raising the standard of forward play from his position at number-eight.

Brocklebank, Matt Burton and Will Stone were awarded tankards in recognition of their teamwork and commitment to the squad during a period when the group was plagued by injuries.

Brocklebank used the wealth of experience he gained playing for the county to raise the level of play throughout the team.

Burton acted as a utility player and covered at least five different positions when required, while Stone showed that with a little courage and good technique the size and strength of the opposition is no obstacle.

The team were well supported from the sidelines throughout the season and in the clubhouse by a team of dedicated volunteers for which they and the coaches are very grateful for.
