A WEYMOUTH café handed over a cheque for £400 for a meningitis charity to a brave youngster who has been battling the effects of the disease.

Tom and Erin's on the seafront has been supported the #teamgeorge fundraisers for Meningitis Now who have been inspired by George Patterson, who has suffered various health problems after contracting pneumococcal meningitis.

The venue held a Christmas raffle, which was supported by its regular customers, and chose the #teamgeorge fundraising effort as its chosen cause.

Christ Steadman from the café said: "I've know George's dad for a ling time and it's a very good cause.

"We are fully aware of the difficulties people have with meningitis and the need to raise awareness of the symptoms and we really support what they do."

The draw raised a total of £400 for the cause.

George's mum Naomi said that she was really grateful for the support from Tom and Erin's.
