“A Rat’s Tale” is full of quirky humour and eccentric characters, a funny tale dealing with The Black Death using comic relief!

“Horrible histories meet Black Adder” – something not to be missed!

  • CADS (Cerne Abbas Dramatic Society) are supporting a forthcoming performance entitled “The Hollow Crown”.

It comes highly recommended and is a performance with a difference!

“The Hollow Crown” is a series of readings, delving into the lives of the queens and kings of England.

It starts with William the Conqueror and ends with Queen Victoria.

The readings are compiled of actual existing documents and speeches, offering a unique insight into history.

The performance takes place in aid of Combat Stress, tickets cost £ 5 including a glass of wine.

They are available from Cerne Abbas Stores or Alan and Sandy Morrell on the number above.

  • MUSIC Festival: Many thanks go to everyone who made the festival possible once again and of course the Gaudier Ensemble.

Having enjoyed one of their concerts myself I can confirm how superbly played their music was in the lovely setting of St. Mary’s Church.

If you are already looking forward to next year’s performance, here is the date for your diaries: The festival will take place from Thursday, July 7 to Sunday, July 10.

  • CHRISTMAS may seem far away but this year’s card designs have already been chosen by The Cerne Valley Young People Trust.

Two pupils of Cerne Abbas First School submitted the winning designs, the cards are being printed now.

They will be on sale in mixed packs of 10 for £ 4 in Cerne Abbas Stores – do look out for them!

If anyone is interested in last year’s cards, please note that a few are still left.

They can be bought now before they go into the shops by phoning Jacky Tucker on 01300 341076.

The Trust is also pleased to support the purchase of musical instruments for Cerne Abbas First School which will also be used by members of Crusaders.

  • GHANA, the Ivory Coast, Togo and Benin will be the next stages of Peter Gostelow’s journey.

He left Godmanstone a year ago to start a bicycle journey from England to South Africa.

Read an account of his fascinating journey on www.thebigafricacycle.com.

Last month, for example, he helped distribute mosquito nets in Sierra Leone, some of which were funded by donation left in Cerne Abbas Stores!

His website will give you more information and will also inform you about the Against Malaria Foundation for which he welcomes support.

On an occasion where a priest needs to be contacted, a wish to be married for example, the Rural Dean is the first point of contact.

She is the Revd Canon Janet Smith and her telephone number is 01305 262477.
