THE PORTESHAM Short Mat Bowls Club held their AGM recently followed by the finals of an annual knockout competition amongst the members and a social evening.

Bob Kenward resigned as Chairman having held the position for 5 years since the club was founded by the late Ron Bartlett.

The new Chairman, Clive Rowland was elected and a vote of thanks was expressed to the retiring Chairman for his services to the Club.

The finals match followed with the winner, Graham Whitby being presented with the Ron Bartlett Cup and Betty Dunford, close runner up for the second year.

  • THE CHILDREN’S Society held a successful coffee morning in the village hall that was well attended.

There were several interesting stalls to encourage people to part with their money including, Christmas cards, cakes and mince pies and a patchwork stall with aprons, bags, cushions, etc. and a bric a brac table.

This workshop was held on November 14 not as stated December and I am very sorry for any inconvenience caused.

The 2011 Workshops will commence in March with a monthly day long session each month until November.

  • REMINDER - Tickets for the Barn Dance on Saturday, December 18 to be held in the village hall are now on sale through the Post Office on Tuesdays 10-12noon or can be reserved on phone numbers 871892 or 871392 - don’t delay as ticket numbers are limited.

Tickets are priced at £7.50 each or £3.50 for a child to include a ploughman’s supper - there will also be a licensed bar available.
