Littlemoor community hall shook to the sounds of Abba and 60 or so local ladies last week.

The free event proved to be a veritable hit as they sang along to the film Mama Mia and ended with a dance along led by Jane Goodwin of the Centre Stage Dance School.

There was a great sense of community spirit as the young and not so young women of Littlemoor let their hair down.

The event included wine and an excellent buffet prepared by Tony Gibbons who was promoting his ‘Free Cookery Workshops’ which will be starting on May 10th from 10am to 1pm and 6pm to 8.30pm at the community centre.

  • A while back the 1st Littlemoor brownies held their centenary party at the hall and another great time was had by all who attended.

Brownie packs from Weymouth and Upwey joined in the celebrations which included a variety of creepy crawlies to look at and hold supplied by Celebrity Reptiles, a London company run by Janet and Martin Southcombe.

The girls got to handle a wide variety of animals:- millipedes, tarantulas, iguanas, pygmy hedgehogs, skunks and snakes but the brownie leaders were less enthusiastic about handling Aragon the spider or receiving kisses from the snake!

A party tea followed with cakes made the night before by the brownies themselves.

The tea finished with a large birthday cake as well as a cake tower made by a brownie mum.

Colin Harmer ran a disco and the girls joined in everything from the Macarena to the Conga The evening finished with each pack doing a ‘turn’ and the brownie leaders did a traditional clown sketch minus the custard pies but no less messy as talcum powder was freely showered upon one and all.

Gill Patterson, the brownie leader would like to send her thanks to everyone who helped at the event as it took a lot of hard work from them but they made it really special.

That includes the Brownie leaders past and present, LCAG members Colin and Iris, and Brownie mums.
