HELLO – I’m your new correspondent for Milborne St Andrew, Milton Abbas, Dewlish and Winterborne Whitechurch – so please let me have your news!

Tell me about your forthcoming events, or let me have information about events you have recently hosted, or just how well things have been going in your organisation.

If you can supply a photograph as well that is even better.

Dewlish

DEWLISH Cricket Club are organising the bonfire and fireworks display this year at Moats Field.

It’s on Saturday, November 1; gates open at 5.30pm. There will be refreshments from the barbecue and a bar. The club captain tells me that it will be an excellent display as they have bought a huge amount of fireworks so prepare to be dazzled!

Proceeds raised will go to the cricket club.

  • JIM and Daphne Burg are hosting a Traidcraft coffee morning on Saturday, November 15 at their home, Elm View, in Dewlish. It starts at 10.30am and will finish at about 12.30pm. Come along for coffee and cakes, have a go at the raffle and do some Christmas shopping from the Traidcraft selection! Proceeds will be donated to the church.

Milborne St Andrew

FOR several years St Andrew’s church has taken part in the Living Churchyard scheme.

Through this they are encouraged to maintain churchyards in a wildlife-friendly way by allowing wild flowers to grow, having different areas of grass cut to different heights, providing a log pile as shelter for insects and small mammals, putting up bird boxes etc.

The spring and early summer wild flower area flourished and the small wild flower meadow in the newer part of the churchyard is beginning to make progress.

This year they were delighted to be awarded joint runners up in the best managed class for the second time, well done to all those who helped on this project.

  • THE Christmas Market will be held on Saturday, November 29 at the village hall from noon till 3pm and will be opened by Father Christmas himself!

As well as many stalls full of bargains there are also some wonderful raffle prizes this year.

Homemade soup, mince pies and mulled wine will be available.

Do come along and get your Christmas shopping off to a great start.

  • ON ST Andrew’s day (Sunday, November 30) there will be a craft workshop in the village hall from 3.30pm to 5.30pm.

Children are welcome (parents too!) and there will be ample opportunity to make lanterns, etc, and enjoy free refreshments. Afterwards, participants can walk up a candlelit lane to the church and see their creations displayed at the benefice service at 6pm and join in the advent carol service.

  • THE Milborne Players are not resting on their laurels – hot on the heels of Acting Funny, their successful revue show in September comes the rehearsals for the pantomime Aladdin.

It opens on Thursday, February 5, finishing with two performances on Saturday, February 7.

Jon Riddle is directing this traditional panto, which boasts a sound story of good triumphing over evil, with all the usual characters plus a few new ones.

From what I’ve heard so far it sounds like it’s going to be hilarious and definitely a must see.

Put a note on your fridge now to remind yourself to get tickets for it early next year!
