United Nations Day ceremony

United Nations Day is marked by the Borough Mayor, Coun Paul Kimber in Radipole Park Gardens.

Luke Hughes, representing Weymouth Scouts, with the mayor raises the UN Flag, near the special tree that was planted to commemorate the fine work of this organisation throughout the world.

David Addy, of Weymouth Lions, borough councillors and Friends of Radipole Park and Gardens took part in the ceremony, during which the mayor paid tribute to the work of the Lions, whose world-wide efforts are incorporated in so many UN initiatives.

The Mayor said: “I hope today, we can raise public awareness on the important causes and encourage the United Nations and its specialised agencies, funds and programmes to redouble their efforts to eradicate poverty and suffering.”

COMMUNITY volunteers are looking forward to the next Meeting Point Lunch that takes place on Tuesday, November 2,12.30pm-2pm at St Aldhelm’s Church Hall.

Roger Hogbin from the Weymouth Harbourside Rotary Club will be outlining plans for the Weymouth Christmas Sparkle.

This is an opportunity for the sharing of information, discussion of ideas and considering issues of mutual interest.
