Puddletown Society members celebrate new year en francais

Puddletown

• TWELFTH night celebrations for the Puddletown Society at Athelhampton House went with a swing, with almost all the guests entering into the spirit of the French themed evening with the men in berets and the ladies in feather boas.

Accordion music played by Bert Santilly added greatly to the atmosphere, and we could almost imagine ourselves looking out over the Loire instead of the gentle meanders of the Piddle.

As always, the meal served was superb.

A raffle was held during the evening and this made £100 for the Dorset Ambulance.

• CHRIS McKenna tells me that the Christmas tea party at the Rod Hill centre went very well.

Fifteen members of a choir came along and sang for everyone.

This was kindly arranged through Lin who works at Puddletown surgery.

The choir performed songs from the shows and then carols with everyone joining in.

• GREAT thanks from the church events committee go to Glad Antell who spent many hours in her kitchen making tw22 Christmas cakes and 54 puddings as well as planning, buying, cooking and organising her workforce in the preparations for the 0ver 70s Christmas lunch.

• LUNCH in the village hall for the month of February will be on Monday, February 14 from noon until 1.30pm.

Take your Significant Other out to lunch for Valentine’s Day!

• THE AGM and lunch of the church flower team will be held on Saturday, February 19 at 11.30am in the church room.

• GARDENS throughout Puddletown will be open on Sunday, June 19.

• ALADDIN and his Magical Mystery Teapot will be presented by the Pop in Place at the Drax Hall on Friday, February 25 at 7pm and Saturday February 26 at 7pm.

Fly on a magic carpet adventure with colourful costumes, lively songs and a storyline full of Eastern promise.

With an all-age cast drawn from our village community, this promises to be an evening to remember.

Seats are limited, so book early to avoid disappointment.

All proceeds will go to MacMillan Cancer Care.

• YOUTH Cricket club entered an under 12 team into a local league last summer and would like to enter again next summer as an under 13 team.

Help is needed with coaching and organisation for training sessions and matches.

If you have an interest in cricket, and can spare some time to join the existing team of volunteers, Andy Kent would be delighted to hear form you.

• A PARISH lengthsman is to be appointed by the parish council to undertake a wide variety of tasks around the parish to complement the work carried out by Purbeck district and the county councils to achieve a cleaner, safer and more pleasant environment for us all.
