Flower festival raises valuable funds for Dorchester Opportunity Group

• DORSET HEROES was the title of the flower festival organised by Owermoigne Flower Club, together with invited guests.

Visitors to the festival enjoyed seeing the many floral interpretations of famous Dorset people.

The collection made throughout the festival made £455 for the Dorchester Opportunity Group, a charity established in 1993 to provide pre-school education for young children with disabilities and support for their families.

• A PLANT sale organised by the Horticultural Association will be held in the village hall on Saturday, May 7 from 10.30am until noon.

Don’t forget to put the Open Gardens Day on Sunday, June 19 into your diaries.

This is also organised by the Horticultural Association.

• HEALTHY Eating is the subject of Moira Pinder’s talk to the Countrywomen’s Club on Wednesday, May 11at 2.30pm in the village hall.

The competition is for a favourite plate or dish.

Bere Regis

• A VILLAGE picnic party will celebrate the Royal wedding.

This will be held at the sports club on Friday, April 29 from 3pm until 8pm.

There will be a red, white and blue theme, and there will be a fancy dress competition, wacky games, celebration tea party (bring your own food), a hog roast, a bar and free children’s drinks.

Bring a family picnic, and something to sit on.

Entry forms for the fancy dress are available from Bere Regis school, the Spar shop and post office.

• A GIANT cake and plant sale is to be held in aid of church funds on Saturday, April 30 from 10am until noon at Wareham Town Hall.

• BERE Regis Floral Group has a demonstration entitled Divine Inspiration by Katie Baxter from Ringwood in Winterborne Kingston village hall on Tuesday, May 10 at 2pm.

• PURBECK Village Quire comes to the Drax Hall on Saturday, May 14 at 7.30pm with an evening of West Gallery music and folk songs from Hardy’s Wessex.

Supper will be served, included in the ticket price of £5, but please bring your own drinks.

• A SCARECROW festival will be an added attraction at this year’s village show to be held on Sunday, August 14 at the scout hut in Elder Road.

There will be a competition for the best scarecrow chosen from those displayed around the village.

Log onto the internet and google scarecrows for great ideas from other scarecrow festivals to give you inspiration for your creation!

There will also be an on site youth competition at the show.

• TRANSPORT for anyone wishing to come along to the Pop in Place sessions on Mondays and Fridays from 10am until noon is now available, as the group now has a volunteer driver willing to collect people. If you unable to walk as far as the Drax Hall, or are a little apprehensive about coming alone, please contact Alison on 01929 472023.

• EASTER bonnets will be on parade at the Pop in Place on Friday, April 22.

There is also the grand Easter egg raffle, and hot cross buns for sale.

New this year is entertainment provided by St John the Baptist junior church puppet theatre, with some very uplifting songs.

The Pop in Place team looks forward to seeing you at this fun morning.
