• SLIMMING World members from all over Weymouth and Portland all got together recently to raise money for the NSPCC by holding a sponsored walk and fete.

Slimmers were encouraged to walk and cycle from Victoria Square to St Nicholas Church on Buxton Road and have so far raised £500.

Many people also got their family involved. Slimming World consultant and Wyke resident Nicky says, ‘Keeping active is an important part of weight loss and this was a great way for members from all over the area to get together and share their ideas whilst raising money at the same time. We encourage our members to exercise wherever possible and walking is one of the best ways to start. Members were able to join us at several points on the way. Some decided to walk from Tophill first and some of the participants chose to walk all the way back as well. Those wanting a more gentle stroll brought their children and dogs to the Rodwell Trail to join us there.’ Once everyone arrived at St Nicholas Church they relaxed at the fete and BBQ. All the food was all donated by members and sausages from The Sausage Factory served at the BBQ proved to be an extremely healthy and delicious treat. It was a great way to show members they can continue to enjoy eating and still lose weight.

Anyone wanting to find out more about Slimming World or wanting to make a donation to NSPCC may contact Nicky on 01305 750670.

  • AN END of term outing to the Granby Fun Factory made 80 children (and their parents) from Wyke Weenies Toddler Group very happy indeed.

Mel and Sara would like to thank Nikkie and Leon for opening their doors to the group for two fun filled mornings at this new venture. The wavy slide was a big hit, especially with the parents.

Wyke Weenies is now closed for the summer holidays but will re-open on Monday, September 13, at 9.30am.

  • ST.EDMUND'S Rose Garden Party this year was bathed in sunshine on a very hot day. What a contrast with last year's rain and misery when everyone was forced to crowd together indoors for this popular event!

The Rose Queen, Grace Norris, was crowned by Maria Greenwood of Wessex FM Radio and her attendants were Catlin Stanley and Abigail Barnes.

The rector Revd Deb Smith and the organisers of the fete wish to thank everyone who helped and everybody who came to the event.

A record total of £1,756.90p was raised for St Edmund’s Church.
