• SADLY the equipment in the children’s play park at the Marsh near the swimming pool has suffered repeated major acts of vandalism which makes it very costly to keep in a suitably safe condition for children to continue to enjoy playing there. Litter adds to the problem and this is why its future is under discussion.

Keeping the play area safe and clean and deciding where best to locate it to minimise the damage is proving a complex issue. If you have any helpful suggestions I’m sure your local councillors would love to hear from you.

Anyone wanting to express their wish to keep the play park open should telephone 01305 838000.

  • WESTHAM Community Group and Youth Forum is busy preparing for the carnival when members are entering a float with the theme Alice in Westhamland. They hope as many people as possible will be on the sea front cheering them on.

Meanwhile anyone in the community who can offer their sewing skills to help finish the costumes is invited to turn up at Westham Methodist Church Hall, in Milton Road or Newstead Road, on Tuesday, August 3, from 6pm or Friday, August 6, also at 6pm.

The community group is also running a sea front stall on carnival day. If anyone can donate unwanted gifts or quality second hand goods for sale on the stall, or items suitable for a tombola, please take them to the hall at the above times, or contact Ryan Hope on 07794757558.

The group hopes most people in Westham have now received the latest edition of the community newsletter, but if not please let Erika Patterson know on 01305 774725 so she knows which areas aren’t yet covered.

Active Westham is now well underway. This year it is being run by the community group and over 50 young people are involved in a variety of interesting activities including community projects at the weekends.

  • ST.PAUL’S church would like to say a huge 'thank you' to everyone who supported the summer fete and helped make it such a success, including the June Hornby Dancers and Beechcroft St. Paul's School Choir. The magnificent sum of over £2200 was raised.
  • THE Society for the Protection of Markham and Little Francis say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported their progress towards the recent High Court hearing in Weymouth regarding the future of the town green.

Proceedings started on Tuesday, June 8 and an account is included in the Society’s latest newsletter. To volunteer your help with distributing this or, if you don’t usually get one, to request a copy also available by email, telephone 01305 779936 or 01305 775553.

The Judge’s decision is expected any time between now and the autumn. The Society will pass on the outcome via the local media as soon as the judgement is announced.

Meanwhile fundraising continues to cover costs involved.

On Sunday, August 15, the society is staging a dog show from 11am to 4pm at the Marsh, near Moonfleet Bowls, off Knightsdale Road. Register on the day.

This is a funpacked family community event to raise money towards the legal costs of the campaign to keep the town green. There will be classes to suit dogs of all sorts, as well as a raffle, stalls, refreshments, bouncy castle and dog acts including the Yeovil Agility Group and the Pet Experience Display Team.

Help is needed with setting up and running the stalls at the dog show. Contact Mary on 01305 775553 if you can help please.
