Refurbished garden opens at Crossroads Day Centre

• A CHIFFCHAFF sang enthusiastically in the background as visitors gathered to witness High Sheriff, the Hon T J Palmer, officially opened the Crossroads Day Centre Garden in Chickerell Road.

The refurbished garden has been funded by the Weymouth and Portland Partnership Community Health Fund and the Partnership for Older People Project, and generously sponsored by Gould Garden Centre, Weymouth. Volunteers from the Phoenix Legacy, Portland YOI, Weymouth College and local communities have helped create the garden with its pergola, raised beds and quiet woodland corner.

Members of Westham Crossroads Allotments Association who hold plots just across the road from the Centre have also pledged their ongoing support for this project.

• THERE will be an Easter Bingo on Thursday, April 14 at Conifers Primary school, to raise funds for a local majorette troupe called The Ruby Twirlers. Doors open at 6 pm.

• ON SATURDAY, April 16, there will be a table top sale at Westham Methodist church from 11am till 2pm. The money raised will be used to buy new tables for the upstairs room of the church which is used by different groups including the carnival club which meets every Friday from 4pm to 6pm. If any one has anything to donate for any of Westham Community group’s fundraising events please drop in at the church any Friday evening during carnival club or telephone 07787999187.

• THE next work parties at Westham Methodist Church will be held on Saturday, April 9 and Saturday, May 7, from 10am till 2pm. All help from members of the community is greatly appreciated.

• THE Society for the Protection of Markham and Little Francis are holding another Easter Egg Hunt on the Town Green on Sunday, April 24, at 11am, in the field above the Roundhayes Close entrance. This is part of the continuing efforts to raise money to fund the campaign to save the town green.
