WEYMOUTH and Dorchester have been included in a new guide to television programme locations.

Parts of Dorset that have been used by television crews are included in The British Television Location Guide, which shows where fans can visit locations from their favourite programmes.

The different shows in the book that have chosen to use the area include EastEnders, Doctor Who and Harbour Lights.

Author Steve Clark said: "It's no surprise crews have returned to Dorset so many times because the countryside is stunning.

"I think Weymouth did well to get EastEnders filming there as it was rumoured the BBC originally planned to go to Spain.

"I hope the book encourages people to visit the area."

EastEnders' actors Rita Symons and Samantha Janus are pictured on Weymouth beach during their visit with the BBC crews in April.

The guide also describes how The Tank Museum in Bovington was used for tank interior scenes for the BBC's Bonekickers; a drama which follows a team of archaeologists.

Councillor Brendan Webster, who is brief holder for leisure, tourism and community facilities at Weymouth and Portland Borough Council, said: "We are delighted that Weymouth is featured in this new guide and this year has been especially busy for us so far with 24 enquiries since January.

"We fully recognise and work to maximise the benefits filming brings to the borough and this includes the benefit of local people being employed as extras."
