Starting Over

Trevor Morris and his wife Sue left Charlton Down in 2002 for the Tarn region of southern France, where Trevor renovates old properties. In his spare moments he writes a weekly column about his experiences for the Dorset Echo Weekend Magazine.

Trevor's articles have now been collected in a 348-page book called Viva La Renovation, which is available on-line by visiting www.dorsetecho.co.uk/publications or from the Echo offices in Weymouth and Dorchester.

Mice Weather
THE best laid plans of mice and men I can't really speak for the mice population, I'm sure the ones that haven't been dissected by our felines are probably doing very nicely, but I can broadly speak for the men part of the equation, and I have to say that the plans are not doing too well.

Devis Inspiration
IN an ideal world things would be so simple. You would just turn up for work, do what you had to do, and then somebody would hand you a brown paper bag with loads of cash in it.

On The Town
IF there is one thing that everybody in the world likes, it is a bargain, and now that Land Rover has gone sub-continental, while British Leyland has gone to the Chinese, there are precious few real bargains left in the world. Hordes in Cordes
SOCIETY has always had a bit of trouble trying to work out what to do with unwanted and disparate elements within it.

Their saving grace
IT seems that you can't open any newspaper, or switch on the TV, without being bombarded with issues about global warming, carbon footprints and dwindling fossil fuel reserves. You could be forgiven for thinking that ecological awareness and careful husbandry of resources is something new to the 21st century.

Sparks of Revolution
IT is not hard to become jaded and pessimistic when you listen to the stories thrust upon us by the media. Before you know it you are convinced that you are going to be murdered in your bed by a gang of youths who have been driven mad by food additives and suffering from sunstroke as a result of global warming caused by your 4x4.

Hospital Case
THERE are certain words that when placed together seem to mean less than their component parts.

In the Thicket of it
SOMETIMES you can't see the wood for the trees. In our case, you can't see anything at all on account of the sent by the devil brambles. For something that is not supposed to be a tree, the humble bramble grows to an astonishing height. It has the power to cover entire buildings.

Femme Power
BEHIND every great man there has to be a great woman, as Aretha Franklin once proclaimed.
