A feast of entertainment is on offer as a free music and arts festival run by young people returns to Dorchester.

Maumbury Rings is set to host its sixth annual Anonymous Festival on Saturday, August 23 from noon to 7pm, with gates opening at 11am.

The young organisers of the event from local youth forum Dorchester Youth Extra (DYE) have lined up a number of exciting acts for the event and are on the hunt for more musicians and bands to perform.

Fresh from organising a hugely popular open air cinema event in Dorchester’s Borough Gardens, the group is busy preparing for the Anoynmous Festival and is keen to showcase local talent.

Group member Krissy Tripp said “The cinema event was a great success this year with loads of families and members of the public turning up.

“We hope that the sun will keep shining this year as it’s guaranteed to be a good one!”

There will be two stages at the event, one focusing on artist performing original music and an ‘Open Mic Cafe’ for original and cover music.

DYE Member Demi Watts said: “Anonymous is a great chance for local bands to show off their talents. It has been, and will continue to be, an excellent day for the whole family to enjoy.”

Not only is entry to the festival free but there are a whole range of activities for people to try free of charge, from slacklining to zorbing.

There will also be a bouncy castle, graffiti art and a craft workshop.

West Dorset District Council community development officer Emma Scott, who helps DYE to organise the event, added: “We are thrilled to be joined by two members of the very talented and hilarious ‘Slightly Fat Features’ this year who will be performing their circus act around the event.

“And for the fourth year running we are lucky enough to have the backing of the Dorset-based ‘Keep Love Sweet’ campaign who are sponsoring the Open Mic Cafe and who will be on hand to give out information and advice to young people about contraception and sexual health.”

Local creative agency Revolting has been boosting the social media profile of the event with a new Facebook page, Twitter account and a new look website.

Creative director Ros Cleaver said: “We were so impressed by the festival in 2013 that I felt that more people should know about it.”

Other organisations to support the event include Dorchester Town Council, Magna Housing Association, West Dorset District Council and Air 107.2 Community Radio.
