IT was a soulful evening in Bournemouth when legend Alexander O’Neal spearheaded a new season of live music at 1812 bar and restaurant.

Our party were strategically placed next to the stage where we could soak up the fantastic entertainment, not to mention also enjoy a fabulous three-course meal.

It was a first for 1812 to have a DJ play at their venue and what an exciting job was done by Mike Artwell, who kept the bar buzzing spinning hit after hit and keeping everyone on the dance floor.

Support on the night came from excellent local band Bafaana who warmed up the crowd playing a mixed set, which really got everyone on their feet whilst eagerly awaiting O’Neal’s performance. He came on to a huge roar of screams and cheers and delivered all the classics from his impressive back catalogue.

Stand out tracks being Sunshine, which really showcased his smooth vocals and Criticize that got the intimate audience singing the words in unison.

Like a true professional, Alexander overcame occasional sound issues and there’s no denying that this guy can really sing. The man himself summed it up best in his distinctive deep accent, “we ain’t going to let a little sound issue ruin our party, we here to have a good time.”

And have a good time we did, the dance floor was completely packed the whole night. This was something totally different and I must say I’m very excited with the next act being Kenny Thomas and his full band on Thursday, November 13.
