NOW very much a household name, this was John Bishop’s fourth packed night at the BIC and attracted a happy mix of all ages.

However, some of the bad language used in the opening film to his new Supersonic show and throughout was at odds with his family man persona.

His use of the c-word when putting down a heckler in the opening minutes, sat uneasily next to the footage we’d only just seen of The One Show and Match of the Day. Perhaps the strain of so many consecutive nights had worn down his patience.

That aside, Bishop’s new material was bang on the money and managed to keep the audience enthralled on a rainy Sunday night, which is no mean feat. The stand-up doesn’t do jokes or routines, but prefers to tell hilarious observations and anecdotes about his life.

For example, the first half dealt with his feelings about married life now that his children were leaving home. There was also a very funny re-enactment of his chat-up lines from the 80’s that featured a young lady from the audience.

The second half covered more of his professional life and coming to terms with the trappings of fame. This latest tour should only further enhance his reputation as one of the best stand-ups in the UK and it even ended with a nerve-racking penalty shoot-out.
