PROFESSOR Green is not your average squeaky-clean, bubbly, fun music chart-topper.

He’s controversial, he’s brash and his songs aren’t necessarily the type you’d buy your mum for Christmas, but he is a true entertainer in every sense of the word which he showed off at the O2 Academy Bournemouth.

Wearing a black t-shirt, shirt and jeans, the show wasn’t about the spectacle of lights and costumes that some music artists rely on but instead about the lyrical talent of the rapper and song-writer who descends from Hackney in London.

Ahead of the main set, there were support sets from DJ IQ who played a great mix of tunes from the clubs. He was then followed by the mega Wretch 32, who performed some of his best tracks including Don’t Go, Traktor and 6 Words.

Wretch 32’s song Black Out was a particular memorable moment in the gig as the overhead lights faded and people were asked to use the torches on their phones to light the room.

But back to the main man, Professor Green, who was visiting the town on the penultimate date of his Growing Up In Public tour, bringing with him a live band, backing artists and a big back-catalogue of great music.

Lullaby, Just Be Good to Green, Remedy, I Need You Tonight and Avalon saw the crowd go wild and there was never a dull moment while Professor Green was on-stage, keeping the atmosphere buzzing until he left the stage.

He’s cheeky, likeable and having the time of his life, both on and off-stage, and Bournemouth residents will definitely look forward to welcoming him back when he brings out another new album.
