WEYMOUTH LUNCHTIME CHAMBER CONCERT
St Mary’s Church, Weymouth
MUCH so-called Christmas music seems designed to make you buy something in a hurry and make a quick getaway.
Not so the Barn Choir’s lunchtime carol concert in St Mary’s Church, Weymouth.
A small chamber choir directed by Dr. Richard Hall, they performed to a packed house with style and panache.
Duncan Honeybourne, accompanied splendidly on piano and organ and Martin Weston, a baritone with an exceptionally sweet voice, was the soloist.
The choir’s major work was Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on Christmas Carols.
This delightful work is a medley of interwoven folk carols, mainly collected last century in the West Country, from local musicians – for example Come All You Worthy Gentlemen and We Wish You a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
The audience joined in for a rousing O Come All Ye Faithful and a good time was had by all.
