Dr Hook with Ray Sawyer at Bournemouth Pavilion

After four decades of being in the music industry Dr Hook, specifically Ray Sawyer, still gives all the energy he can muster and for a 78-year-old rock singer he can shockingly give quite a lot.

The band sang all the hits everyone wanted, apart from my most favourite Millionaire.

As a Dr Hook fan, I personally didn't go to watch a faultless singing performance I went to hear all my favourite Dr Hook classics live from Ray himself.

And he didn't let the audience down.

There's no illusion that he can't do some of his old vocal moves, but when he's singing your favourite songs it isn't a big deal.

With the Alabama country style still in him he brought the good old 70s rock days to Bournemouth Pavilion for one night only.

He sang the usual songs you'd expect to hear, When You're in Love with A Beautiful Woman, Sylvia's Mother, Only 16, The Cover of the Rolling Stone and A Little Bit More - with a chorus sang by the crowd.

There were even a few unexpected performances by the talented band members, Stevie Ray on bass with a great blues number showing he's not lost his voice at 65.

Ray also gave a rendition of Sitting on the Dock of the Bay for his encore song.

The ladies are still swooning after Ray, after 40 years he still has a big presence on stage with his eye patch, country style hat and now flowing long white hair.

Dr Hook fans wouldn’t have been disappointed with this full of energy show from a true 70s rocker, a performance you don’t quite get from new acts today.

The support act Lex Icon is also worth a genuine mention, he gave a great start to the show bringing humour to the stage as well as some talented technical guitar moves and his own country songs.
