QUITE why you would go to see one of this country’s most talented singer-songwriters and then up and leave less than halfway into her set is puzzling to say the least.

But unfortunately for Bradford-born blues rock star Chantel McGregor, that is what some of the audience at her Bridport Arts Centre show decided to do.

One member of the crowd complained after the second song of the set, Burn Your Anger, taken from McGregor’s recently-released second album Lose Control, that the drums were too loud.

As McGregor, who took to the stage all in black, said herself at one point, what do people expect from a rock band? And she was absolutely spot on.

Starting off with Freefalling from 2011 debut Like No Other, Yorkshire’s blonde bombshell showed just why she is among the hottest properties on the UK rock scene.

Caught Out allowed an early demonstration of her prowess on the guitar, as did Screams Everlasting later on.

McGregor brought her acoustic out for the beautiful Home, while Anaesthetize is, as she has stated herself, an attempt to take the listener “on a journey” through Lose Control.

McGregor, bassist Colin Sutton and drummer Keith McPartling, round off the show with three more tracks from Lose Control, really letting fly with Your Fever, Walk On Land and Take The Power.

Those that stayed until the end were certainly glad they did and will be hoping that this undoubted talent returns to Bridport again someday.
