IT was a night for 70s Glam Rock nostalgia at the Pavilion on Thursday night with three of the biggest bands of the era coming together on the Glitz Blitz tour.

Mud 2 were first on stage and soon got the crowd on their feet and singing along to some rock ‘n’ roll standards and the hits that saw them top the charts all those years ago.

Tiger Feet, The Cat Crept In, Rocket and a slightly early Lonely This Christmas were all there and the crowd loved it.

Hot on their heels were The Rubettes who kept the atmosphere going with Juke Box Jive and Sugar Baby Love.

The white suits and berets were still there as was the sense that they were still enjoying every minute of it.

After a short break the band that the majority of the crowd had come to see - The Sweet - played what could be their last gig in Bournemouth as this is billed as 'The Final Tour'.

It's been a while since 1973 when I was an eight year old lad sat in front of the telly watching them perform Blockbuster but that could just be the moment that got me interested in music, something that grew into a passion that is still with me forty two years later.

This is a group that sold 55 million records in the days when you actually had to get off your backside and go to a shop to buy a piece of vinyl.

So on to the show. The members may have changed over the years with only Andy Scott from the original band here and there is a distinct lack of glitter and cat suits (probably a good thing) but they have retained the rock/pop sound that served them so well in the 70s.

This is not a group going through the motions but a great rock band that put on a show that left everyone wanting more.

An acoustic session was well paced mid-set and it was great to hear Co Co stripped back and just played on the guitar.

After that it was hit after hit with Blockbuster, Hell Raiser, Ballroom Blitz, Teenage Rampage, Love Is Like Oxygen and one of my all time favourite songs Fox On The Run. It was just a great show from start to finish.

But all good things must come to an end and end it did but no-one left without having seen a great show from one of the biggest groups of their era and loving every second of it.

If this is the final tour then I will have some great memories but I for one would go back and see them again tomorrow.
