Sometimes it's good to go to a gig when you don't know much about the band and are not sure what to expect and for me Alt-J at the BIC were exactly that.

With their first album released a little over three years ago and the second just last year these guys have come a long way in a relatively short time.

Starting the set with Freckle, Something Good and Left Hand Free they immediately won the crowd over and continued on to deliver a set of great songs that had definitely converted me by the end of the night.

Initially subdued lighting backlit the band for the first quarter hour or so before the arena erupted into a light show that literally dazzled the crowd on occasions.

To be fair with just the two albums behind them the set was always going to be quite short and it did indeed come in at just over an hour but what they lacked in quantity they more than made up for in quality.

The songwriting, vocals and musicianship on display tonight more than justified the hatful of awards this band have won and the fact that they are a pleasure to watch live just adds to the plaudits they have received.

After an encore of four songs ending with Breezeblocks they promised to return and I for one will definitely be there.

If you haven't already bought the albums make sure you do as on this showing they should go on to even bigger and better things.
