THOUSANDS of girls and women will descend on Poole Park tomorrow as Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life arrives in town.

The event kicks off at 11am and will see 2,000 participants running or walking the 5k route to raise funds in the fight against cancer. One of those taking part is Bobbie White who decided to maximise her fundraising efforts by having her head shaved yesterday.

Bobbie’s locks were chopped off by husband Scott at Tesco Extra in Tower Park where she works as a home delivery driver.

She is taking part in a team with colleagues from the store.

Money raised on the day will help support Cancer Research UK’s life-saving work to help more men, women and children in the South West survive cancer.

Every hour, around three people are diagnosed with cancer in the South West.

Event organiser Rachel Northover said: “Race for Life is an amazing way to celebrate life but also remember those who have been lost to the disease. Participants may be decked out in pink or fancy dress but what’s inescapable is the power and strength that comes from thousands of women joining together to confront cancer.”

She added: “There are more than 200 cancers and we won’t give up until we find cures for them all. It’s fighting talk, and we mean every word we say. Cancer, Bournemouth is coming to get you.”

The Daily Echo photographers will be in Poole Park to capture the day and we will be publishing pictures, together with the names of all participants, in a Race for Life special on Monday.

We will also be covering the event online at bournemouth echo.co.uk.
