A NEW series of wood sculpture workshops is taking place in the Weymouth and Dorchester area.
Supported by Dorchester Art Centre and run by Mark Vyvyan-Penney the creator of the giant play-sculptures at Avon Heath Country Park, the project hopes to revive an interest in the art of carving wood.
Mark said: “Since I finished the sculptures at Avon Heath last year, many people have asked if I would run some sculpture classes.
“The giant insects and snake-sandpit are very popular at the park and children have been playing. It seemed right to begin some workshops – there seems to be a real need for people to do something creative.”
The giant play-sculptures were put in place at Avon Heath as part of a package to update the tired old play park that had been there for 20 years.
The workshops run from 10am to 4pm and are £25 per day booked in advance. Booking is essential.
Workshops at Dorchester Arts Centre, School Lane, Dorchester are on March 16, 24 and 30.
There is also a workshop at Upwey village hall near Weymouth on March 17.
