BRIANTSPUDDLE Singers will re-gather for the new term on Tuesday September 10 with their new conductor, Rob Dishington.

Dr Richard Hall handed over to Rob at the end of last term after 37 years, after being entrusted with the baton by the founding conductor of the choir, Biddie Kindersley. So Rob is just the third conductor of BPS in its more than 60 year history.

He is keenly sympathetic to its traditions and says: “Richard has been a tremendous support. He has had an amazing 37 years, which must be something of a record and the choir has been really well trained.

“They are able to perform exciting and complex repertoire thanks to Richard’s knowledge.

“I shall be proud to keep up the traditions of the choir, while also introducing new repertoire to them.

“I am also very much looking forward to preparing ‘Elijah’ with all the Guild choirs.”

That is the Dorset Guild of Singers, which also has an illustrious history going back more than six decades.

The Guild core choirs (BPS, The Swanage Arts Club Choir, Wareham Choral Society) will be joined by Dorchester Choral Society and The Beaminster Singers for the concert in the Lighthouse in April next year.

Meanwhile, BPS warmly welcomes new members to join them for the first term with their new conductor to prepare for a concert on November 23.

Their programme will include Cecilia McDowall’s Ave Maris Stella, Jubilate by Benjamin Britten and a choir favourite Linden Lea by Ralph Vaughan Williams.

Rehearsals are at 7.30pm in the picturesque Briantspuddle village hall.
