THE Killing of Sister George is set to take to the stage of the Royal Manor Theatre on Portland.

The play, written by Frank Marcus, stars some well-known faces. In the fictional village of Applehurst, an axe may be hanging over the head of Sister George, the District Nurse who is beloved of her villagers and of thousands of fans of the hugely popular BBC Radio Drama.

The Killing of Sister George revolves around the implications of this threatened cull for June Buckridge, the actress who not only plays Sister George but is Sister George to many thousands of people.

This black-comedy-drama, like the infamous movie of the same name, explores the love, dependence, brutality, abuse and power games between four women in this sometimes funny, sometimes shocking play.

Starring Sally Laming, with Jo Cheverton, the ever-popular Beryl Clafton, introducing new star Karen Groom, and directed by Chris Matthews, renowned for his previous cutting-edge productions of ‘Educating Rita’, ‘The Birthday Party’ and ‘My Brilliant Divorce’, The Royal Manor Theatre is proud to present for the first time this hilarious yet harrowing exploration of celebrity status and human relationships.

The Killing of Sister George will be performed at the Royal Manor Theatre, from Monday June, 2 to Saturday, June 7. Doors open at 7pm and the show begins at 7.30pm.
