A DRAMA workshop for adults with disabilities will be staged at Dorchester Arts Centre this summer.

Say So Drama are inviting people aboard the ol’ ship Blackbeard for the Pirate’s Life For Me workshop from Monday, July 21 to Friday, July 25.

Scurvy sea dogs are required to board the vessel for a week-long, pirate-themed summer school to search for pirate treasure and discover new foreign lands.

Coordinated by professional workshops leaders, Emma Greenslade and Paul Lawless, the workshops will incorporate various aspects of drama, dance and music – to the tune of everything seaside.

The company runs weekly sessions throughout Dorset during term-time and this summer is giving people in Dorchester and Weymouth a taster of what they offer their Blandford, Wareham and Poole classes.

Workshop leader Paul Lawless said: ‘It’s going to be a great week.

“We have lots of pirate-themed activities planned and we know it’s to be lots of fun, as well as an opportunity for group members to make new friends, develop their performing skills and really get creative.

“There will be something for everyone as we will be looking at technical theatre too and, excitingly, the workshops will culminate in a show on the last day of the week-long Summer school. This will provide group members an opportunity to dress up and showcase what they have learnt – performing to a live audience.”

Workshops will run from July 21 to 25 between 10am and 3pm.

Fees are £120 for the full week. Booking forms can be found online at say-so.org.uk and a deposit of £20 must be returned along with the booking form to Dorchester Arts Centre.

If group members have specific needs – e.g personal, mobility, communication, medication or severe epilepsy – they must be accompanied by a support worker.
