HUNDREDS of singers belted out some classic pop and rock songs to raise money for a Dorset cause.

Members of the Rock Choir took to the stage at Weymouth Pavilion to pull in the pounds for Julia’s House children’s hospice.

Among the numbers they performed were You’re The Voice, Something Inside So Strong and Ain’t No Mountain.

Choir leader Stacey Hobday was thrilled with the reception her choir members got from the audience.

She said: “They really outdid themselves. The reaction from the audience was fantastic – it was a really interactive show, as the audience even joined in for one of the songs.”

Rock Choir holds weekly sessions in Bridport, Dorchester, Poole and Weymouth.

Stacey’s choirs were joined by another Rock Choir leader’s choirs.

Choir leader for Chandlers Ford, Fareham, Meon Valley, Portsmouth and Winchester, Jan Moll, took around 70 of her members to join Stacey’s choirs for the show.

She said: “The choir members really love getting together for a Big Sing.

“Their passion and enthusiasm shines through so much and the audience just get enveloped in the sound.”

Rock Choir is a community based organisation, so it seemed fitting that the members chose to raise funds through their performance for children’s hospice Julia’s House.

The organisation is the only children’s hospice charity in Dorset dedicated to helping life-limited children and their families across the county and in South Wiltshire.

Rock Choir is the UK’s largest contemporary choir, with more than 16,000 members in over 300 local communities.

There are no auditions and no requirements to read music or have any previous singing experience. Rock Choir members get together each week to attend fun, friendly rehearsals where they are taught specially arranged pop and rock songs.

There are lots of exciting performances throughout the year and many of them help raise money for charity.
