TALENTED young performers from Portrait, Dorset’s youth contemporary dance company, will take to the stage for their end of year performance at the Bay Theatre, Weymouth College, 7.30pm on Wednesday.

The group of eight dancers aged 14 to 21 have been learning new skills and creating innovative work all year.

They have performed at regional dance showcases in Taunton and Southampton, at local festivals and worked with national choreographers from Urban Playground, Zoo Nation and 2Faced Dance companies.

The show also includes work created by dance graduate and ex-Portrait member Elinor Male through the Youth Dancer Scheme funded by Pavilion Dance South West. Portrait runs recruitment workshop auditions in the autumn. The group meets on Wednesday evenings at Weymouth College Dance Studio during term time and half-term holidays to work with our artistic director and leading national dance companies. Together they create dance pieces that are performed indoors and outdoors in venues across the county of Dorset.

Anyone with a passion for dance is invited to come along to see the work and join the company. Enthusiastic, talented and creative young dancers aged 14 to 21, with the potential and desire to develop their dance talent are being sought.

A Junior Portrait dance group will be starting for 10 to 13 year olds in September in Dorchester.
