GET swinging on Sunday afternoon with the Glenn Miller Orchestra.

The orchestra is back at the Weymouth Pavilion Theatre for the first time in over a decade.

It is back on the road again with a brand of music that started nearly a century ago in the jazz clubs and ballrooms of America and still refuses to go away.

With bands as diverse as Manhattan Transfer, The Shadows, Chicago and Jive Bunny keeping alive songs like Tuxedo Junction and In the Mood, there is still a hardcore of Miller enthusiasts.

By the way, the introduction to In the Mood can also be heard on the end of the Beatles’ All You Need is Love.

The first orchestra to use the name Glenn Miller was established by Miller in 1935 but it is probably fairer to say that the Glenn Miller sound started with the 1938 incarnation of the orchestra.

In 1944, Miller played 80-odd concerts in UK before his fateful disappearance in a light plane over the English Channel in December of that year.

The current UK orchestra, led by veteran band leader, Ray McVay, spent much of last year playing 70th Anniversary concerts marking Miller’s time in UK and his subsequent disappearance.

The theme this year is “The Legend Lives On” - celebrating the fact that 70 years after Miller’s presumed death, people still love his music.

The show features Colin Anthony and Katherine Sykes on vocals along with the Moonlight Serenaders.

The energetic and entertaining Jiving Lindy Hoppers are the guest stars.

2015 sees the 100th anniversary of Frank Sinatra’s birth. A tribute to this great singer is included in the show

The Glenn Miller Orchestra led by Ray McVay and featuring the Jiving Lindy Hoppers will be appearing at the Pavilion Theatre, Weymouth on Sunday, curtain up at 3pm.
