A POPULAR violinist will perform in a classical concert in North Dorset.

Madeleine Mitchell will play at St Peter's Church in Shaftesbury on Saturday September 19 from 7pm to 8.45pm.

The concert will also feature Geoffrey Poole on piano and Beethoven's Violin Sonata no.2 in A op.12 no.2 and Sadie Harrison, Aurea Luce, the World Premiere of.

After the interval the audience will be able to enjoy Tchaikovsky's Meditation

and Rhapsody performed by Geoffrey Poole.

Karen Wimhurst will play Morceau Caracteristique.

This is an unmissable chance to hear Madeleine perform in Shaftesbury, both classics by Beethoven and Tchaikovsky and approachable new works, including a new work specially written for the artists by the internationally acclaimed, Shaftesbury resident composer Sadie Harrison, based on the ancient Benedictine vespers Hymn Aurea Luce, 'O light of dawn' dedicated to the apostles St Peter and St. Paul.

Madeleine Mitchell has performed in some 50 countries as a soloist and made many acclaimed recordings.

There will be a reception for the audience with the artists and composers after the concert with drinks available.

Another local composer, Karen Wimhurst is represented, in her short piano piece.

The final piece by Frank Bridge, composed in 1908, is an exciting virtuoso piece from Madeleine's popular album Violin Songs, the manuscript of which was thought to be lost for a century, which she discovered in a private collection at the Royal College of Music, where she is a Professor.
