A WEST Dorset choir has been endorsed by a world famous conductor.

Sir Neville Marriner has agreed to become the patron of Lyme Bay Chorale after attending their last concert earlier this year.

He said: "Lyme Bay Chorale is already on the map, and I am very happy to be associated with it.

"I was very impressed with the repertoire and the presentation of the last concert. It is exactly the kind of enthusiasm and commitment that I love in music and the standard the choir achieves is a notable benchmark for both amateur and professional music-making in our part of the country."

Sir Neville Marriner was made a Companion of Honour in the Queen's Birthday Honours List this year. This rare honour is given to individuals for recognised service of national importance, with only 65 people being members of the order at any one time.
