A PLAY showing a positive side to gaming is part of a double bill of drama being offered by young actors from Dorchester Youth Theatre tonight and tomorrow.

Thunderwar and Spellbound will be performed at Dorchester Corn Exchange at 6.30pm on both evenings.

The youngsters taking to the stage are the intermediate and junior companies,

Thunderwar was written by Adrian Flynn, who has worked on a number of adaptations, including the adaptation of the Demon Headmaster by Gillian Cross and is a long-standing writer of The Archers.

Adrian said: "I think Thunderwar’s probably a response to some negative publicity in the media about computer gaming. While there are clearly some dangers involved in addictive gaming and overly violent games, most young people are very smart and can easily tell the difference between fantasy worlds and the real one.

"So I thought I’d show a positive side to gaming, by telling the story of a very insecure young man, Charlie Tapp, who learns to stand up for himself through spending time with his computer avatar, the Viking warrior, Rokan Karm. The other reason for writing it was to string lots and lots of silly jokes together.

Adrian will be attending the play's premiere tonight.

Tickets are available from Dorchester Arts Box Office.
