MORE than 260 young people performed in front of family and friends at a summer concert at Weymouth Pavilion.

The DASP Music concert saw young people, aged six to 18 performing an eclectic mix of styles to a completely full house.

The groups that took part included the DASP Youth Orchestra, The Thomas Hardye School Concert Band, Treblemakers boys choir, DASP Jazz Band, Harmony pop vocal group and much more.

Hanna Trevorrow, DASP music coordinator, said: "The concert is a chance for the young people who attend our weekly DASP Music ensembles, to showcase the work that they have been doing over the past year.

“The concert also included some numbers which were put together especially for the concert.

"These included a performance of Bizet’s Habanera from Carmen, by a large orchestra put together on the day, which included beginner players through to those of grade 8 standard and above – it sounded really wonderful!

"For our finale we had a choir of more than 80 children of mixed ages singing Put a Little Love in your Heart accompanied by the jazz band. One of the strengths of DASP Music is the opportunity for young people of all ages to join forces to make music together.

The standard of playing from these youngsters is outstanding - It really is an inspiring environment for all involved.”

DASP Music runs 14 weekly music ensembles for children of all abilities (including complete beginners), to come together and make music together.

Many of the ensembles occur at a weekly Music Night held on a Wednesday at The Thomas Hardye School and new members are always welcome to attend a free taster session.
