A COMMUNITY choir is performing two free concerts this week in Dorchester and Weymouth.

The first of the concerts, to be given by the Dorchester branch of Dorset for Singing, is tomorrow (28) at the United Church in South Street, Dorchester at 7pm.

Donations will be taken for the Dorchester branch of the Multiple Sclerosis Society

The Weymouth and Portland branch of Dorset for Singing will be performing at 7pm in St Nicholas Church, Broadwey, Weymouth on Thursday (29) in aid of M.V.Freedom, the boat that allows disabled people to experience the freedom of the sea.

Both concerts have free admission with a retiring collection at the end. Tea and coffee will be served in the interval with donations also going to the charities.

The choirs will be singing songs by Abba, Ed Sheeran, Howard Goodall and more.

For the young at heart, they will also be performing How Far I'll Go from the hit Disney/Pixar film Moana. There will also be songs performed by soloists and duos from the choirs, making it an evening to remember.

Choir leader Ed Hintze said: "This is a great focal point for the choirs to show off their hard work over the weeks and if we can raise money for good causes by doing this, it's even better.

"One of my highlights is when a member of the choir gathers enough confidence to perform on their own during a concert.

"There may be wobbles and uncertainties beforehand but when they get up and sing, they beam from ear to ear.

"Dorset for Singing prides itself on being a very young-sounding choir with a strong emphasis on singing for enjoyment. Rehearsals are fast-paced with humour playing a large factor. Some members have been in the choir since it began, nearly 10 years ago"
