A festival of art shining the spotlight on Portland's history, geology and landscape is returning.

The b-side festival, this year celebrating its 10th year, will be held from September 8 to 16.

The biennial celebration promises nine days of entertainment for those who love new experiences, exploring beautiful landscape and unique work created by artists from across the globe.

This year b-side will take people on a journey around Portland, guided by artists and giving you special access to secret places and forgotten sites: experience light art in underground military tunnels, discover the newly created Portland National Park, or take part in expeditions into the territory of the Tophillians and Underhillians to view non-existent sites of real interest such as the giant emperor’s head, the O-Void, and Freemasons’ Tower.

See the Portland Promettes perform at Portland Bill. They will combine music, dance, comedy, live art, audience interaction and general showing-off in a collection of specially choreographed routines.

This year the festival will feature a group of young producers who have worked together over the last year to bring their own festival to Portland. The WHY festival, to be held on the second festival weekend, explores youth rights and youth voice.

Film screenings include Arcadia, a provocative and poetic film about our contradictory relationship with the land, crafted from archive footage. It will be screened at the Royal Manor Theatre on Sunday, September 9, followed by a harvest supper.

People can also view artist Carrie Mason drawing on the esplanade at Chesil Cove every day using ink made from Portland stone and tools found on Chesil beach.

Trapped, a performance workshop, will be held in Easton Gardens, and people can take tours of the Easton Ridge, the famous 'mountain range' south of Easton, which has now been declared a protected area.

Classic 1928 Buster Keaton film Steamboat Bill Jr will be screened outdoors at Pennsylvania Castle on Friday, September 14.
