ARE they classical? Are they folk? Are they a totally new category of entertainment? The answer to all three questions is undoubtedly yes, and a lot more besides.

Paul Sartin (voice, fiddle and oboe) of Faustus joins forces with Paul Hutchinson (known to Artsreach audiences for his pivotal role in Hoover The Dog) on voice and accordion.

Together they form Belshazzar's Feast, bringing their sublime seasonal entertainment to three Dorset venues this weekend. Their eclectic influences and tastes combined with their high standards of musicianship are reflected in their repertoire, which ranges from 18th century Playford tunes to Scandinavian waltzes, from music hall to rock and jazz, as well as playing their own compositions. Since their incarnation in 1995 they have recorded five albums and have toured extensively, playing throughout the UK, Germany and the USA at festivals, ceilidhs, clubs and village halls.

Belshazzar's Feast will be at West Stafford village hall tomorrow (call 01305 257266 for bookings and details), Toller Porcorum village hall on Sunday, December 2 (call 01300 320373) and at Bradford Peverell village hall on Saturday, December 8 (call 01305 268156). All performances start at 7.30pm.
