AN orderly vegetable patch, a long pergola dripping in roses, wisteria and clematis, an ancient mulberry tree, expanses of lawn and a small patio garden brimming in colour – there is a huge variety of different-sized, shaped and designed gardens hiding behind the walls and houses of Sherborne.

Now, for the first time, 15 of these private gardens are going to open their gates to the public for charity.

The Hidden Gardens of Sherborne will take place tomorrow and Sunday, between 2pm and 5pm. The event is being organised by The Rotary Club of Sherborne Castles in aid of the street children of Latin America and funds will be distributed through the LATA Foundation and the Children of the Andes charity.

“The idea is to use these beautiful English gardens to help generate shelter and support for children who have no home or garden,” said Roger Johnson, from the Rotary Club.

Tickets are available from Castle Gardens and Sherborne TIC, cost £7.50 and allow entrance to all 15 gardens on either day. Entrance to any individual garden is available at £2.

If you fancy something more lively, try Weymouth Pavilion tonight for And The Music Rolls On.
