CHOCOLATE, great food and comedy are just three of the delicious ingredients being stirred into the mix by the Electric Palace for this year’s Bridport Food Festival.

You are invited to help yourself to fabulous food and then settle down for the evening with Meryl Streep on Tuesday, June 15 as the venue hosts a wonderful film‘n’food event.

Tuck into a delicious quality buffet with a range of seasonal tarts, pies, salads and desserts, all prepared by gourmet caterers Le Pip, before a screening of the hilarious food comedy Julie & Julia starring Meryl Streep.

The film is an adaptation of Julie Powell’s autobiography in which she decides to cook every recipe from Mastering the Art of French Cooking by acclaimed celebrity chef Julia Child (Meryl Streep) in order to chronicle it in a blog over the course of a year.

The film features 365 days, 524 recipes, one tiny apartment kitchen and is comedy gold.

The buffet opens at 6pm with the film starting at 7.30pm.

Tickets for film and food cost £10 and admission to the film alone is £5. Booking for food is recommended, but there is no need to book for the film only.

The dark side of chocolate is uncovered on Thursday, June 17 when Peter Thornton from the High Street chocolatiers lays bare the story of his family’s confectionery success.

From its founding in 1911, the Thorntons family business was blighted by betrayal, suicide, extra-marital affairs and sibling rivalry.

Against all the odds it flourished, surviving two world wars, recession, depression and the General Strike as well as frequent boardroom battles.

Former chairman Peter discusses how success can come at a horrible price.

The talk starts at 7.30pm and tickets at £6 are available from Bridport Tourist Information Centre on 01308 424901.
