ACCLAIMED as ‘a major piece of theatre’, Ringwood-based Forest Forge Theatre Company is bringing its latest show Peeling to Dorchester Arts centre next week.

Peeling focuses on three actors who are appearing in a modern version of Trojan Women. As they wait backstage the audience learns about their lives and enjoys their bickering.

Devastating truths are uncovered as they peel away their layers of pretence, along with layers of their preposterous costumes. As they wait for their cues they chat and share their stories.

From health and beauty tips to recipes and on to more serious subjects, the actresses share their lives and experiences with each other.

This darkly comic play is about the choices women make and the things they hide. Peeling gives audiences a unique and compelling experience as it cunningly interweaves audio description and sign language.

Dorchester Arts spokeswoman Julie Lloyd said: “We’re really excited to be hosting Peeling by Forest Forge Theatre Company. It is a powerful comedy drama, which cunningly interweaves live theatre, audio description and sign language to create a stunning backdrop.

“There is also an opportunity for a touch tour of the set for visually impaired audience members from 30 minutes before the start the performance.”

The play was originally commissioned by London-based Graeae Theatre Company and Forest Forge is the first company to produce the play since 2002.

Kirstie Davis, the artistic director of Forest Forge, said: “From the moment Kaite O’Reilly handed me the Peeling script I have been trying to find the moment for it to come into existence.

“I was blown away by the power of her writing and these extraordinary characters that she has created.”

Peeling is at 8pm on April 15 and the show is suitable for anyone over the age of 16. Tickets are £8 plus concessions from the box office on 01305 266926 and from the arts centre in School Lane, The Grove, Dorchester.
