BRIDPORT Arts Centre’s new season is guaranteed to brighten up the cold winter months with more events than ever.

There is theatre, dance, comedy, live music, community events, exhibitions and an exciting new venture in the café … not to mention very best of digital cinema from Curzonat.

The first production on the Arts Centre’s stage is an exciting adaptation of E.Nesbit’s children’s classic The Phoenix and the Carpet, on January 19 at 7.30pm. Adults and children alike will enjoy this post Christmas pick up that sees four children adventure around the world on their new magic carpet, with the help of a mysterious and fiery phoenix.

At only £10 per ticket it is a perfect Christmas gift.

January also sees comedian Mark Watson performing Request Stops on January 21. We will be launching the Storytelling Café on the 20th, with Martin Maudsley who will retell one man’s life story, with live folk music form Fiona Barrow. Show of Hands lovers will be delighted to hear that the fabulous double bass player Miranda Sykes will be coming with Rex Preston as part of her own tour, Friday, January 27, 8pm.

The action continues throughout the season and highlights include a classic adaptation of The Secret Garden, brought to Bridport by creative and inventive local company, Angel Exit Theatre.

The Seagull Effect, a performance that explores a couple’s relationship as Britain is hit by the unexpected storm of 1987 is perfect for more adventurous playgoers. We are also co-presenting a play at the Bay Theatre in Weymouth, The Harbour, based on the Selkie Myth, Thursday, April 12, at 8pm.

Fancy a dance? Bob Marley’s Birthday Bash will be a great reggae night out, and you will need your dancing shoes too for The Urban Folk Quartet or come along and see the amazing Tazaviva Dance.

We are also please to be continuing with the Super £3 offer aimed at making the arts accessible to all. 20 tickets will be held for a number of events for full time students, young people aged between 16-18, those in receipt of income support, JSA or Housing Benefit.
