IF you can sing, act and aren’t scared of heights, you may be just what Weymouth Operatic Society is looking for.

Four months from now, the award-winning group will be performing their adaptation of the popular musical Fiddler on the Roof in the town’s Pavilion theatre.

It requires a large cast and chorus of all ages and members are hoping that lots of would-be performers will step forward to swell their ranks.

WOS spokeswoman Cate Pullin said: “We have just started rehearsals for Fiddler On The Roof and our director Sylvia Denning has told us we need a much larger cast. “Apart from the principals, we need villagers and these villagers will be put into actual ‘families’. The problem is, we just don’t have enough members currently to support this concept.”

As well as villagers, the society is also looking for the Fiddler of the title – who needs to be able to play or mime playing on the violin and be unafraid of heights.

In a bid to remedy the situation, the society is holding two open auditions next month, one for children and one for adults.

Fiddler On The Roof is a musical set in Tsarist Russia in 1905. Auditions for children aged between eight and 17 will take place on June 23 at 10.15am.

Cate added: “We are hoping to attract some additional adult members now so they can begin rehearsing with us immediately, in the hope that they may wish to audition with the adult members on June 24 from 1pm.” Anyone interested can find more information and contact details via weymouthoperatic.org.

Adults are welcome to turn up at our rehearsal rooms on any Thursday evening.

Fiddler on the Roof is at Weymouth Pavilion from September 19 to 22.
