THE Oscar-winning film director Danny Boyle made waves last year when he returned to the stage with an electrifying production of Frankenstein. Actors Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller starred in the award-winning production, sharing the roles of Doctor Frankenstein and his monstrous creation.

You can see it for yourself at the Electric Palace in Bridport when Encore Screenings show a live performance of Frankenstein to audiences on June 14 and 28.

Childlike in his innocence but grotesque in form, Frankenstein’s bewildered creature is cast out into a hostile universe by his horror-struck maker.

Meeting with cruelty wherever he goes, the friendless Creature, increasingly desperate and vengeful, determines to track down his creator and strike a terrifying deal. Urgent concerns of scientific responsibility, parental neglect, cognitive development and the nature of good and evil are embedded within this thrilling and deeply disturbing classic gothic tale.

With five star reviews from both large and small scale publications this is a memorable production. Awards it bagged include Best Actor for both Miller and Cumberbatch, Best Director for Boyle and Best Designer for the set.

The National Theatre Live’s Encore Screenings of Danny Boyle’s Frankenstein will be at the Electric Palace on June 14, with Jonny Lee Miller as the Creature and Cumberbatch as Victor Frankenstein and on June 28, with Benedict Cumberbatch as the Creature and Miller playing Dr Frankenstein. Doors will open at 7pm for both performances with the screenings starting at 7.30pm. Tickets are £12.50 and are available from Bridport TIC on 01308 424901.
