THE year 1926 saw two major events in the Bridport calendar – the opening of the Electric Palace and the release of Alfred Hitchcock’s early British masterpiece The Lodger.

Now, thanks to the British Film Institute, you have the unique opportunity to see The Genius of Hitchcock, The Lodger, restored to its former glory by the BFI National Archive, in an original 1920s cinema. A brand new score for the film has been composed and will be performed live, via satellite, by the London Symphony Orchestra and multi-award-winning Nitin Sawhney Band, an Indian-British musician, producer and composer.

A serial killer is terrorising fog-shrouded London and a mysterious lodger arrives at the home of Mr and Mrs Bunting.

When the lodger begins behaving strangely, he attracts suspicion. The Lodger is a suspense thriller shot against a back-drop of a fog-shrouded London and featuring matinee idol of the day, Ivor Novello, in the title role.

The live satellite screening of The Lodger includes a pre-show reel of mini-documentaries and will be at the Electric Palace in Bridport on July 21, followed by a Question and Answer session with Nitin Sawhney during which you can tweet your questions.

The bar opens at 7pm and the screening starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are £6 from Bridport TIC on 01308 424901 or online at seetickets.com
