I write in response to the letter by Graham Bryant (Divisive and Farcical, Have Your Say, Friday January 20).
Michael Gove has previously enjoyed several key roles within our Parliament, including Secretary of State for Education, and more recently as Secretary of State for Justice.
Following his astonishing backstabbing of Boris Johnson in the run up to the election of a new Conservative leader, Gove was eliminated at the second ballot.
When Theresa May became our new Prime Minister, she made it very clear that she had no place for Mr. Gove in her cabinet, and he remains a backbencher, with little or no political clout.
Like his wife, Sarah Vine, he is also a newspaper columnist, writing for The Times newspaper, and it was in his capacity as a journalist that he interviewed Donald Trump. His status as a backbench MP is coincidental, but he is now known more widely as a politician.
I too felt it to be in bad taste, but as a newspaper journalist he is free to interview whoever he cares to. In that capacity, Mrs.
May has no control over him, and sadly, neither do we.
